Head of House
William Edwards operates a highly successful vertical tutoring system. Consequently, the role of House Leader is an important one within the school. You will be working alongside a team of House Leaders under the guidance of a Senior House Leader and this is an excellent opportunity to establish yourself as a middle leader and develop your skills for a future senior leadership role. You will be able to demonstrate a commitment to improving student outcomes across KS3/KS4 and be highly motivated and committed to the very highest standards. You will have strong interest in the support of pupils and be committed to excellence as a classroom teacher. As a House Leader you will have the ability to construct, articulate and effectively communicate the school’s vision. You will be able to work harmoniously with departments across the school to provide the best possible academic and pastoral journey and outcomes for the students within your house.
Why William Edwards School?
William Edwards is a large, successful, harmonious and thriving mixed 11-16 comprehensive school. Pupil outcomes across the school are historically strong. However, life at William Edwards is about so much more than just GCSE outcomes and we understand and value the importance of pupil-centred education. We are proud of our national reputation for sport, the arts are extremely strong and we are proud to boast the largest Duke of Edinburgh Award cohort in the East of England. We are one of only a small number of secondary schools nationally to hold both the Artsmark Platinum and the Youth Sports Trust Gold Award for our work in these diverse fields.
Following the school’s most recent inspection in May 2019, Ofsted said that “pupils who spoke to inspectors were effusive about their experience in school” and we are delighted that our recent inspection captured our considerable strengths in teaching, pastoral care, behaviour, pupil support and curriculum. We are pleased that these ‘cornerstones’ of high quality education remain strong at the school.
This is an exciting time to join SWECET. 2020 will see the Trust grow to 6 schools with the opening of the new Orsett Heath Academy which will eventually accommodate 1200 pupils. SWECET is a realistic and forward-thinking Trust which genuinely values its workforce.
In return for their dedication to achieving our vision, we offer our colleagues:
- Competitive salaries with a defined benefit pension scheme
- Personalised CPD plan supporting your professional development and career progression
- Comprehensive training and development opportunities supported by Thurrock Teaching School
- A health and wellbeing package
- Reduced gym membership at a Trust school
